My name is Amy, and this blog will be a "domestic diary" of sorts. I am a stay at home mom to two sweet little boys and wife to an amazing (and patient) man (9 years this summer). I am four credits away from earning my masters degree (which is now on hold), and had a career for 10 years before choosing to stay home when my first baby was born in 2007. I want the domestic life, but I'm not that good at it. I would love nothing more than to be the "perfect wife" and the "perfect mother." However I am the furthest thing from that. I really do want to be a Martha Stewart, and would love to be the 2010 version of June Cleaver. I spend too much time on the computer, have a list of organization projects ten miles long, and the dinners I serve leave much to be desired. I have a lot of room for improvement. My goal is to have a good balance so I get to do the things I enjoy like digital scrapbooking, but things at home, like laundry do not get neglected. This blog is the documentation of my adventure in trying to be a better "domestic engineer."

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

Sometimes life is hard, and sometimes life is extra hard. I have been riding the train of life uphill, chugging along, but I think I'm almost to the top.  I'm ready for life to get a little easier!

Happy New Year!

I love the starting over feeling the new year brings.

Here are some house cleaning ideas that I might just want to go back to later:
How To Clean Your House In 30 Days
the author has some suggestions on how to get your house clean in 30 days by doing housework for just 20 minutes a day.  There are some good ideas in her article.

Four Daily Routines
I love her take on simplicity!  I don't want a bunch of complicated systems!  Her "clean enough" mantra is refreshing, although I want more than clean enough lol.  I love the shine the sink idea that the author references in her article too by the way!

How to get your whole house clean in 2 hours (or less)
I found her tips inspirational.  Almost makes me want to start cleaning :)

How to clean a house
If you are good at cleaning you don't need to read the article, but one thing I learned from it is why it is important to put your clothes in the washer after the water and soap have been added.  The dyes in the soap can stain your clothes!  I didn't know this!

10 Habbits of a clean home

I am getting there!  BUT there is a lot of room for improvment.
I love this post

I need to put more of this into practice.  How are you doing?

I'm alive... Breathe

I like the new Mercyme song, "The Hurt & The Healer." I have found a lot of comfort from my faith, and this song kind of expresses that part of me.
I like this excerpt from the lyrics...

I’m alive
Even though a part of me has died
You take my heart and breathe it back to life
I’ve fallen into Your arms open wide
When the hurt and the healer collide

Breathe

Sometimes I feel it’s all that I can do
Pain so deep that I can hardly move
Just keep my eyes completely fixed on You
Lord take hold and pull me through

Life isn't easy, I struggle with a lot of things at times, but I do have peace in my heart through it all.

The lyrics in their entirety...

"The Hurt & The Healer"

Why?

The question that is never far away
The healing doesn’t come from the explained
Jesus please don’t let this go in vain
You’re all I have
All that remains

So here I am

What’s left of me
Where glory meets my suffering

I’m alive

Even though a part of me has died
You take my heart and breathe it back to life
I’ve fallen into Your arms open wide
When the hurt and the healer collide

Breathe

Sometimes I feel it’s all that I can do
Pain so deep that I can hardly move
Just keep my eyes completely fixed on You
Lord take hold and pull me through

So here I am

What’s left of me
Where glory meets my suffering

I’m alive

Even though a part of me has died
You take my heart and breathe it back to life
I’ve fallen into your arms open wide
When the hurt and the healer collide

It’s the moment when humanity

Is overcome by majesty
When grace is ushered in for good
And all our scars are understood
When mercy takes its rightful place
And all these questions fade away
When out of the weakness we must bow
And hear You say “It’s over now”

I’m alive

Even though a part of me has died
You take my heart and breathe it back to life
I’ve fallen into your arms open wide
When The hurt and the healer collide

Jesus come and break my fear

Awake my heart and take my tears
Find Your glory even here
When the hurt and the healer collide
[x2]

Jesus come and break my fear

Awake my heart and take my tears
Find Your glory even here

OK now I better get on with my day lol

Women's Pay and Childcare

Here is an interesting article about women and childcare.  I thought the author made an interesting point about how society wants "affordable child care" so women can choose to go back to work, but the childcare workers are often women also, and they get an average of $2.50 an hour for caring for one child.  What do we value in our society?
