My name is Amy, and this blog will be a "domestic diary" of sorts. I am a stay at home mom to two sweet little boys and wife to an amazing (and patient) man (9 years this summer). I am four credits away from earning my masters degree (which is now on hold), and had a career for 10 years before choosing to stay home when my first baby was born in 2007. I want the domestic life, but I'm not that good at it. I would love nothing more than to be the "perfect wife" and the "perfect mother." However I am the furthest thing from that. I really do want to be a Martha Stewart, and would love to be the 2010 version of June Cleaver. I spend too much time on the computer, have a list of organization projects ten miles long, and the dinners I serve leave much to be desired. I have a lot of room for improvement. My goal is to have a good balance so I get to do the things I enjoy like digital scrapbooking, but things at home, like laundry do not get neglected. This blog is the documentation of my adventure in trying to be a better "domestic engineer."

Clutter Rehab

I entered to win a book called "Clutter Rehab."
I could really use some clutter rehab.  It's not that I have a lot of visible clutter around my house.  I don't have a lot of  nic nacs, and my house doesn't really look too clutter-y.  I only have one little spot that collects paper work, and other than that spot my home looks pretty good.  However I have a lot of hidden clutter.  I'm a closet clutter-er if you will lol.  I am very creative at finding hidden nooks and crannies for my stuff.  I really need to deal with this stuff.  Anyway the book Clutter Rehab sounds like it would be an interesting read for me.  If you'd like to try and win a copy for yourself you can go to this Blog: http://www.homesanctuary.com/rachelanne/2011/07/clutter-rehab.html and enter to win one too!  If you win it and I don't I might have to go buy a copy :)

Any good at "extreme couponing?"

I started "clipping" (or printing) coupons lately.  It is pretty fun to watch the savings stack up when the coupons are scanned into the register at the grocery store.  I don't save tons- only an average of $5 or $6 a shopping trip for me.  Coupon Kim is going to have an "extreme coupon 101 class" on her blog, and I think I'll follow along to see what her tips are.  If you'd like to check it out HERE is a link. I think I already have my "homework" done for this week.  I just need one more thing.

2 couon sites

Here are two sites a friend of mine told me about regarding coupons...
http://www.frugallivingnw.com/
http://thekrazycouponlady.com/

I don't have time to check them our right now, but I hope to spend some time exploring later.  I really would like to learn more coupon techniques.  I would love to keep more of my money :)

Keeping Meal Planning Simple

In order to keep meal planning simple I'm going to make a schedule so I don't have to think to hard when I sit down to do meal planning.  In other words- what I am doing now isn't working lol.
My new simplistic meal planner will include:
--one day a week where we don't eat meat (stuffed bell peppers, whole wheat pasta, veggie strir fry, etc.)
--one day where I mostly make chicken or turkey meals,
--a day where we eat our leftovers,
--a day where we make ethnic foods (which will include tacos, curry, etc.),
--a day where we try to add in fish (mostly salmon if we can afford that once a week), (it will be fun to experiment with different glazes and coatings)
--a day to break out the crockpot,
--and a day where I make a simple meal and focus more on the dessert than on the main dish.  We will only have desert once a week- and the goal will to make the desert on the low cal, low sugar side, but all recipes will be considered lol.  This will give me a chance to try some fun baking recipes, and will give the family something to look forward to.  Once or twice a month I'd like to make a brand new recipe too. We'd like to really our limit of red meat and foods with white flour so that isn't on the plan, but of course we will have to throw them in every once in while

This is the schedule I am thinking of...
Meatless Monday
Poultry Tuesday
What's Left Wednesday
Ethnic Thursday
Fishy Friday
Slow Cooker Saturday
Simple and Sweet Sunday

Hopefully this well help fill in my meal plan, and I can continue to work on getting organized (which is a full time endeavor for me).  I'm also hoping that a simpler meal plan will make grocery list making easier too.  We shall see!

Happy New Year!

Do you have any new year resolutions to make housekeeping changes?  Um... Yah I do for sure.  I resolve to get the house de-cluttered and organized.  I resolve to make a dinner plan each week (hmm already failed at this but I believe in second chances... 56th chances...).    There is also... keep the toys organized, keep up with the laundry every week, keep the house "visitor drop-by" ready at all times, try to save money at the grocery store by couponing....  When I look at my list I get a little excited, but I also get a little nervous.  Here is to 2011 and hoping it is the best housewife year ever.  :)
